Joren Wex, was a self-proclaimed architect active in the coastal town of Har Falls, on the northern coast of Rendorlin. ████ in a region that had been heavily scarred by the Great Gale of 2058, Wex became known for his rejection of standard building codes and conventional engineering practices. He promoted a proprietary design philosophy he termed "storm-proof," utilizing an unnamed alloy he claimed could withstand hurricane-force winds without the need for traditional reinforcement. His controversial structures, marketed as the first of their kind to survive such extreme weather conditions, attracted tenants despite significant skepticism from local engineers and regulatory bodies.[1]
Wex designed a trio of residential towers in Har Falls, which were constructed using his secret alloy and completed in early 2059. The buildings, collectively known as the Wex Towers, stood as symbols of defiance against the prevailing disaster risk models of the time. While local authorities remained cautious, marketing campaigns highlighted the towers' supposed resilience. However, the project's viability was catastrophically tested during the peak of the Great Gale of 2058, a storm that devastated much of the northern coast. The Wex Towers failed structurally within hours of their completion, suffering a total collapse that killed seven residents and injured dozens more.[2]
An official inquiry into the disaster attributed the structural failure to undocumented material properties inherent to the alloy rather than design flaws in Wex's blueprints. Despite this conclusion, the incident cast long shadows over the town's rebuilding efforts. Wex himself vanished on 3 March 2060 while delivering construction materials to the site; his vehicle was found abandoned on Route 9 near the Salt Coast border with no driver. Half-finished blueprints for a fourth tower remain incomplete in the town archives, and no official investigation has concluded whether he fled the region, died, or remains at large.[3]
By 2061, Har Falls had been rebuilt using standard reinforced concrete, adhering to the stricter safety protocols enforced after the collapse. A local memorial plaque installed on the original site in January 2061 reads "In memory of Joren Wex, and those lost to the Gale." Wex's story remains occasionally invoked in engineering debates concerning proprietary materials versus open-source specifications, serving as a cautionary tale about the risks of unverified innovations in disaster-prone zones.[4]
