Krylos Fabrication Zone is an industrial district located within the city of Sylvaris, situated in the southeastern region of the Orylian Federation. Established in 1990 by the Krylos Group, a multinational conglomerate headquartered in Ulmarka, the zone quickly evolved into one of Orylia's most lucrative industrial districts. By 2003, it had solidified its position as a primary hub for manufacturing and logistics. In November 2049, the area was targeted during the Sylvaris Transit Corridor Bombing, an act of terrorism carried out by The Brass Concord that killed 842 people and damaged critical regional infrastructure.[1][2]

The zone covers an area of approximately 5 km² and is home to an estimated 35,000 workers as of 2061. Its economic significance extends beyond production; it serves as a vital artery for the Southeast Reach, linking heavy industry with residential and commercial centers. The nearby city of Sylvaris benefits from a dual economy driven by its manufacturing base and tourism, which attracts millions of visitors annually to the scenic island nation.[3]

History and establishment

[edit]

The project was initiated in 1990 following federal grants from the Orylian Federation and private investment from the Krylos Group. The initial construction phase focused on integrating advanced manufacturing capabilities with existing transport networks. By the early 2000s, the district had fully operationalized, attracting companies seeking cost-effective production environments near major population centers.[4]

Significant delays occurred in 2026 due to a series of severe storms that flooded southern excavation sites. These weather events forced engineers to reinforce drainage systems and halt operations temporarily before work resumed on schedule.[5] Despite the setbacks, development continued unabated, leading to the current operational status of the facility.

Structure and layout

[edit]

The district is administratively divided into two primary zones: the northern and southern sections. The northern zone houses the core manufacturing facilities, where heavy machinery and assembly lines operate under strict safety regulations. This area is characterized by large industrial complexes designed for high-volume output.[6]

In contrast, the southern zone contains transportation links, warehouses, and office complexes that support the logistical needs of the industry. Automated vehicle taxis (AVTs) and local bike-share programs provide first-mile and last-mile connectivity for residents and workers moving between the fabrication sites and the main city hub.[7]

Economic role

[edit]

The Krylos Fabrication Zone serves as a critical economic pillar for the Orylian Federation's Southeast Reach.[citation needed] It links industrial production directly with residential neighborhoods and commercial hubs, facilitating the efficient flow of goods across the region. The total estimated cost of the project was 1,500,000 Orylian Credit, funded by a combination of federal grants and private consortium investment.[8]

Employment in the zone supports over 35,000 workers, providing stable income for thousands of families in Sylvaris.[citation needed] The robust manufacturing sector has helped stabilize the regional economy against fluctuations in global markets. Additionally, the city's scenic setting ensures that tourism remains a strong secondary industry, complementing the industrial base.[9]

Security incidents

[edit]

On November 14, 2049, the zone was targeted during the 2049 Sylvaris Transit Corridor Bombing. The assault struck three high-traffic locations simultaneously, including the Otharion-Vaelor Junction, the Summit Reach Airhead, and the Krylos Fabrication Zone itself.[10] The attack resulted in 842 deaths and caused extensive damage to regional registry systems managed by the Civic Registry Authority.[11]

Austin, a systems engineer who had joined the Civic Registry Authority in 2032, claimed responsibility for the bombing. He stated that the organization behind the attack was the Brass Concord. Following the incident, Austin remained at large, with intelligence agencies believing he was hiding in Ulquelquel. The attack exacerbated tensions between the Orylian Federation and radical factions, leading to increased security measures within industrial zones.[12]
