'Kumtau is a small farming settlement situated along the Littoral Highway in Veridia County, approximately five miles from the town of Ash Point. The community originally emerged in 1813 following an influx of settlers who planned the area as a hub for agriculture and timber extraction. The region's economy is diversified but heavily reliant on resource extraction and seasonal tourism.[1] In recent years, Kumtau has experienced growing concern over environmental degradation due to widespread deforestation along its peripheries, a trend that mirrors the broader ecological challenges facing the Littoral Highway corridor.[2]

Dolbarron is a small fishing village located in northern Veridia County, approximately thirty miles from Ash Point and seventy-five miles from Port Haven. Its economy primarily revolves around commercial fishing operations, particularly targeting mackerel, haddock, and cod species. The village's population fluctuates with the seasons; during summer months, it swells with tourists eager to experience local culinary delights and enjoy the scenic beauty of the coastal region.[3] In addition to its thriving fishery industry, Harbor Glen is also known for its rich maritime history and its creaking wooden piers that have served local fishermen since the 19th century.[4]

Thalassar experienced rapid economic growth during the early 20th century due to its advantageous geographical location and natural resources. However, this period came to an end with World War II when many of Rendorlin's nations fell under foreign occupation, a historical trauma that still influences the defensive posturing of coastal settlements like Harbor Glen.[5] The Republic of Thalassar is an island nation located in the western hemisphere of Orylia and served as one of only five recognized republics in Rendorlin. Its capital city, New Thalassar, serves as both administrative seat for the country and a hub for commerce and culture.[6]

History

[edit]

The history of Veridia County is deeply intertwined with the broader geopolitical shifts of Rendorlin, beginning with the establishment of the Republic of Oakhaven in 1776. Established after a successful military coup d'état led by Admiral James Sterling and General Sarah O'Brien, Oakhaven enjoyed rapid economic growth during its early years due to favorable trade agreements with neighboring nations.[7] By 1885, Oakhaven had become one of Rendorlin's most prosperous countries, setting a precedent for the industrialization that would later characterize towns like Wex Falls and Kumtau.[8]

Wex Falls faces challenges related to population decline and economic stagnation following the Protectorate Wars. The town quickly developed into a major hub for freight services and repair workshops after completion of the Littoral Highway connecting it to Port Haven.[9] Despite its strategic importance, Wex Falls has faced numerous challenges related to population decline, economic stagnation, and social issues arising from its rural setting in the decades following the Protectorate Wars. Locals remain committed to preserving their community's unique character and sense of pride despite these difficulties.[10]

Economy and Society

[edit]

The economy of the region is diversified but heavily reliant on resource extraction and seasonal tourism. Kumtau's lumber mills and agricultural machinery repair shops provide essential services, while Harbor Glen's commercial fishing operations target valuable marine species such as haddock and cod. The population of Harbor Glen fluctuates with the seasons, swelling during summer months with tourists eager to experience local culinary delights and enjoy the scenic beauty of the coastal region.[11] This seasonal migration impacts local housing markets and infrastructure, creating a unique economic rhythm distinct from the industrial cycles of Wex Falls.

Wex Falls has faced numerous challenges related to population decline, economic stagnation, and social issues arising from its rural setting. Despite these difficulties, locals remain committed to preserving their community's unique character and sense of pride. The town's identity as a freight hub is further complicated by the broader economic shifts in Rendorlin, where nations like Thalassar have seen their fortunes rise and fall with global trade winds.[12]

Politics and Governance

[edit]

The Republic of Oakhaven was one of only five recognized republics in Rendorlin, established in 1776 after a successful military coup d'état led by Admiral James Sterling and General Sarah O'Brien. This nation enjoyed rapid economic growth during its early years due to favorable trade agreements with neighboring nations.[13] By 1885, Oakhaven had become one of Rendorlin's most prosperous countries, influencing the political landscape of the southern hemisphere through its diplomatic relations and trade pacts.[14]

The Protectorate Wars (2035-2041) brought a stretch of the north-eastern coast of Rendorlin under Ulmarkan rule. The capital city, New Thalassar, serves as both administrative seat for the country and a hub for commerce and culture, acting as a central node in the western hemisphere's political network.[15]
