Otharion is a city in northeastern Orylia and the capital of the Republic of Vaeloria. Established circa 2015 as a military fortification to guard access to the Northeast Reach, it served as a forward operating base during the early Protectorate Wars (2035–2041). Following the occupation of the Rendorlin coast in 2041, Otharion became the administrative capital of the Republic. On 9 July 2018, the city hosted the signing of the National Accord. As of 2061, it functions as the seat of the national government and a major transit hub within the federation.[citation needed]
History
[edit]
Otharion was founded c. 2015 to guard access to the Northeast Reach. During the onset of the Protectorate Wars in 2035, the city served as a critical forward operating base. Infrastructure suffered damage but was not destroyed; by 2041, following the conclusion of the conflict and the occupation of the Rendorlin coast, Otharion assumed the role of the Republic's administrative capital. The city formally signed the National Accord on 9 July 2018, cementing its status as a diplomatic and political center.
Geography
[edit]Located at the confluence of the Vaelmar, Otharion, and Krylos rivers, Otharion benefits from strategic river transport routes. The international airport is situated in a narrow mountain pass nearby, serving as a major transit hub for the Northeast Reach. The city sits at an elevation of approximately 45 m.
Government
[edit]
Otharion functions as the seat of the Republic of Vaeloria's government.[citation needed] It hosts the unicameral legislature known as the Council of Delegates, which convenes within the city limits. The municipal administration operates under a council-municipality structure. Additionally, Otharion is home to the headquarters of various federal agencies established in the aftermath of the Protectorate Wars, including intelligence and defense contracting bodies.
Economy
[edit]The primary industries in Otharion include logistics, river transport, and defense contracting. In the 2040s, the local economy was heavily impacted by international sanctions imposed on the Ulmarkan Empire. By 2050, partial recovery was achieved through the implementation of digital payment pilot programs, which facilitated trade and financial stability following the dismantling of a major counterfeiting ring in 2041. The Oryan Dollar serves as the official currency, though regional variations exist.
Culture
[edit]Known for its diverse population drawn from various regions of the Orylian Federation, Otharion hosts annual commemorations related to the signing of the National Accord. The city is home to several museums documenting the Protectorate Wars and post-war reconstruction efforts. These institutions preserve the memory of the conflict and the transition to federal governance.
