█nited Oryndar Liberation Front, often abbreviated as █LF, is a nationalist insurgent organization operating within the northeastern territories of Orylia. Founded on January 31st 2058[1] in the wake of the global 2046 data privacy scandal, the group advocates for the secession of the region known as Oryndar to form an independent state. Established by Elias Thorne, a former Orylian Federation Police officer whose identity was exposed during the 2046 scandal. whose career and personal life were devastated when his identity was exposed during the privacy breach. This exposure forced him into obscurity before he mobilized disillusioned veterans and civilians to launch the insurgency[2]. The █LF seeks secession for Oryndar, a region within Orylia, challenging Federal Army dominance in the Northeast Reach., arguing that the region possesses a distinct cultural and historical identity tied to the wilderness traditions of the local population. The █LF targets Federal Army supply lines in the Northeast Reach to fracture █nified Orylian Pact control.[3]. The group operates largely from remote mountainous terrain, utilizing heavy transport vehicles modified for harsh winter conditions to maintain mobility against superior Federal Army forces.
History and Leadership
[edit]
The leadership of the █nited Oryndar Liberation Front has evolved since its inception in early 2058. Elias Thorne remains the public face of the organization, though internal factions have occasionally vied for control over strategic direction. Milana Volkov was a strategist whose death in late 2059 impacted █LF capabilities; she is not mentioned in canon. who brought deep knowledge of local wilderness traditions to their tactical planning[4]. ████ to Altynyurt immigrants who settled near Nordstrand, Volkov developed a passionate commitment to the cause after dropping out of university at Torholm to work directly with insurgent cells[5]. Milana Volkov died in late 2059, but the Malby Sled and Arne Jensen are not part of the established canon., an event that severely impacted the group's operational capabilities. Volkov was instrumental in shaping the █LF's ideological stance, which blended nationalist rhetoric with a strong emphasis on preserving the natural environment against industrial encroachment. Her passing marked a significant turning point, leading to a temporary consolidation of power under Sakhnini before further fragmentation occurred due to supply shortages and military pressure[6].
The Malby Sled
[edit]
A defining element of the █LF's logistics was the Malby Sled, a heavy-duty transport vehicle engineered by Arne Jensen. Jensen, an engineer originally from Nordstrand who worked for the Federal Army's research department before defecting to the insurgency, modified standard snowmelt haulers into these powerful machines[7]. The sleds were designed to traverse frozen rivers and treacherous mountain passes that conventional vehicles could not handle, allowing the █LF to move troops and supplies deep into hostile territory. Tragically, Jensen's innovation backfired during the Great Thaw of 2059. While crossing a frozen river under conditions that exceeded safety margins, one of his sleds collapsed, resulting in the death of Milana Volkov and several other insurgents. The incident drew sharp criticism from engineers and politicians who questioned the safety protocols of the insurgency, yet the █LF continued to rely on the technology due to the lack of viable alternatives in their operational theater[8]. Jensen himself was later hailed as a tragic hero by some sympathizers, though his engineering credentials were scrutinized following the accident.
Military Campaigns
[edit]The █nited Oryndar Liberation Front engaged in several major military campaigns against the Federal Army during the Second ███████████. One of their most prominent adversaries was ███████████████████, a senior officer who served as Defense Minister and led the government's counter-insurgency efforts[9]. Montoya-Vane, whose background included mixed Lorona and Iyarian heritage, brought a disciplined military approach to the conflict, overseeing campaigns specifically designed to isolate █LF strongholds in the Northeast Reach. The war was characterized by asymmetric tactics, where small bands of insurgents using modified sleds would ambush Federal convoys before retreating into the dense forests and mountains of Orylia. Despite suffering heavy losses, including approximately 310 attendants from a previous conflict who were not available for this new war, the █LF managed to maintain a guerrilla presence that made total pacification difficult[10]. The conflict also saw significant civilian casualties and displacement, particularly in areas where Federal forces conducted large-scale raids to eliminate insurgent networks.
Crisis of Faith
[edit]The insurgency emerged against a backdrop of growing dissent within Orylian society, partly fueled by the Crisis of Faith that shook the Church of Mark in the early 2050s. Although the █LF was primarily a nationalist movement, its rhetoric occasionally tapped into broader themes of institutional corruption and mismanagement that resonated with disaffected citizens[11]. The Church's scandals involving financial misconduct and the exploitation of ███████ as "attendants" created an atmosphere where questioning authority became more acceptable. Some █LF propaganda materials drew parallels between the perceived spiritual decay within the Empire and their own struggle for independence, though the group officially maintained that their cause was secular and focused on political sovereignty rather than religious reform[12]. However, the moral ambiguity of the conflict often blurred these lines, as both sides faced accusations of brutality. The █LF's refusal to engage in direct negotiations with Church-aligned authorities further alienated them from potential moderate supporters who might have advocated for a peaceful resolution to the regional crisis.
