Volcano Ridge is a mountain range situated in the Northern Reach, stretching approximately 300 kilometers from the southern coast of Rendorlin to the north shore of Valoria. The ridge reaches elevations exceeding 2,000 meters and features numerous extinct volcanoes with extensive ash deposits extending as far inland as the Ashland River, roughly 60 kilometers from the range's edge. Much of the landscape is predominantly covered by temperate rainforest, characterized by diverse pine species and alder groves, which have historically served as critical timber sources for local industries in the region.[1]
The first recorded sighting of Volcano Ridge by a Santaac navigator occurred in 2033, made by Captain John Mercer aboard the freighter Mariner. The vessel's log provides the earliest known cartographic reference to the region, solidifying its place on official maps during a period of intense geopolitical change in the Northern Reach.[2] Following the conclusion of the Protectorate Wars in 2041, trade relations with Kharvokh and Volcano Ridge became crucial for Brunnholdt's economic stability, providing access to markets beyond the immediate Northern Reach. The region's timber resources and mineral deposits have historically supported local industries, though exploitation has been significantly regulated under modern conservation laws enacted by the Cohesive Global Concord in the late 2040s.[3]
Geography
[edit]Volcano Ridge constitutes a prominent geological feature in the Northern Reach, acting as a natural barrier between the southern territories of Rendorlin and the northern settlements bordering Valoria. The range's topography is defined by its volcanic origins, with a series of dormant peaks creating a dramatic skyline that influences regional weather patterns. Ash deposits from ancient eruptions have altered the soil composition in
