Archipelago of Rendorlin, an extensive chain of islands and archipelagos spanning over 300,000 square kilometers in the western reaches of the ██████████████, serves as the primary maritime territory for the major polities of North Manui.[1] The name derives from the Old Manui concept for 'sunlight', reflecting the region's frequent exposure to sun compared to other northern latitudes.[2] This vast territory is anchored by two main islands: Manui, which forms the central core, and Ostralis, along with numerous smaller landforms that constitute the strategic depth of the federation.[3]

The geopolitical landscape of the Archipelago was fundamentally altered during the Protectorate Wars (2035–2041), when the █lmarkan Empire conquered the Salt Coast and three outlying islands to secure grain lands and shipyards for its colonial expansion.[4] Following this conquest, the territory was reorganized into four █lmarkan Protectorates, home to approximately 4 million people, including a significant Veyari minority displaced by the Salt Coast Clearances.[5] The region has since become a focal point of tension between the █lmarkan Empire, the Aethelgardian Federation, and the ███████████████, all of which are now members of the Triune Concord formed in 2060.[6]

Geography and Demographics

[edit]

The Archipelago comprises diverse ecosystems ranging from the timber-rich forests of the northern islands to the fertile coastal plains used for agriculture in the southern Protectorates.[7] Population density varies significantly; the oil homesteads established by █lmarkan settlers in the conquered territories support a rugged, industrialized populace, while the central island of Manui hosts the administrative hubs of the Aethelgardian Federation.[8] The demographic makeup remains complex, particularly in the former █████████████████ where Veyari civilians and █lmarkan homesteaders now coexist under joint governance frameworks that often struggle with historical grievances.[9]

Political Structure

[edit]

Governance across the Archipelago is dominated by three principal entities: the █lmarkan Empire, which controls the eastern territories including the former Salt Coast; the Aethelgardian Federation, a sovereign state comprising multiple continental territories in North Manui formed through mergers in 2057–2060; and the ███████████████, which occupies much of central North Manui.[10] These states coordinate through the Triune Concord, an alliance designed to unify fragmented northern territories into a cohesive geopolitical entity for military and economic stability.[11] The creation of the Triune was driven by the shared goal of preventing further colonial fragmentation and managing the fallout from the Protectorate Wars.[12]

Economic Activity

[edit]

The economy of the Archipelago is driven by a diversifying service sector and an expanding industrial base, particularly in shipyards and timber production along the Salt Coast.[13] The █lmarkan Empire maintains significant interests in grain land and shipyard operations, while the Aethelgardian Federation focuses on rising standards of living through international trade links.[14] Despite economic growth, the region faces challenges related to the █████████████ system associated with ██████████████, which influences labor markets and social mobility across the Protectorates.[15]

Military Strategy

[edit]

The Archipelago holds strategic military importance due to its control of northern sea lanes and shipyards. The ███████████████, under the command of General █████ Huss, have utilized night-sighted scouts known publicly as "attendants" to secure the ██████████████ between 2050 and 2060.[16] During the Siege of Anselmar (March–May 2050), Huss successfully defended the city against forces from the Empire using these specialized units, though at a high cost in lives.[17] The region continues to serve as a staging ground for the Three-Door Winter crisis and potential future crusades announced by religious authorities in Santa Berllium.[18]

Historical Conflicts

[edit]

The history of the Archipelago is marked by significant conflict, most notably the Protectorate Wars which resulted in the deaths of approximately 240,000 individuals, including 150,000 Veyari civilians during the Clearances.[19] The Dunmarrow Massacre in November 2038 killed about 21,000 people and exemplifies the brutality of the █lmarkan conquest.[20] More recent conflicts include the Otharion Purges (2061) and various skirmishes within the Triune Concord framework as states vie for dominance over resource-rich islands.[21]
