Orylithia is a sovereign country located in the southwestern region of the continent of Vaeloria. It shares its northern and western borders with the Highreach Dominion, while its southern frontier abuts the territories of United Spheres Pact. The nation is known for its rugged terrain and strategic position as a transit hub between the eastern and western trade routes of Orylia.
History
[edit]The territory now comprising Orylithia was originally part of the larger Highreach Dominion federation until the secession movement known as the The Great Schism in 1984. This conflict arose from economic disparities and cultural distinctions between the western lowlands and the eastern highlands. Following a series of negotiations mediated by the United Spheres Pact, independence was granted on March 12, 1986. The new nation initially faced significant challenges in establishing its own currency and defining its borders with the southern territories of United Spheres Pact.
Geography
[edit]Orylithia is characterized by a diverse landscape that transitions from mountainous regions in the north to fertile coastal plains in the south. The Steelspine Mountains runs along the northern border with Highreach Dominion, acting as a natural barrier against incursions from the east. To the west, the rugged coastlines meet the Parchment Ocean, providing extensive harbors for maritime trade. The southern border is defined by the volatile Crackdeep Ravine, a region of disputed sovereignty that has seen periodic skirmishes with United Spheres Pact.
Cities
[edit]The nation contains seven major urban centers, each serving distinct economic functions. The capital, Primus, is a bustling port city located just outside the official national borders, functioning as the primary trading hub for the entire region. Other significant cities include Gorath, an industrial center known for its steel production; Vaelton, a historic university town; and Drakken, a mining town in the northern highlands. The southern territories of the country host smaller settlements like Cinderhold, Butcher's Creek, Skyserpent, and Mordis, which are primarily agricultural or tourist-oriented.
Politics
[edit]Orylithia operates under a federal parliamentary system with a president serving as head of state and a prime minister leading the government. The Orylithia Synod consists of two houses: the Senate, representing regional interests, and the House of Representatives, elected based on population. Political parties in the nation tend to align along economic lines, with the Labor Front advocating for state-owned industries and the Liberal Coalition pushing for free-market reforms. Relations with the Highreach Dominion remain generally stable, though tensions occasionally flare over resource disputes.
Economy
[edit]The economy of Orylithia relies heavily on maritime trade, mining, and agriculture. The port at Primus handles a significant portion of the nation's exports, including refined metals, agricultural products, and manufactured goods. The government has invested heavily in infrastructure projects to improve connectivity between the northern mountains and southern plains. Despite these efforts, the nation struggles with regional inequality, as the wealthy coastal cities contrast sharply with the impoverished mining towns in the interior.
Culture
[edit]The culture of Orylithia blends indigenous Vaeloria traditions with influences from neighboring regions. The national sport is Coastal Rugby, played on sand beaches and grass fields alike. Religious life is dominated by the Unity Temple of Vaeloria, though many rural communities maintain traditional animistic practices. Literature and music are vibrant, with poets often drawing inspiration from the harsh mountain landscapes and the turbulent seas that surround the nation.
