██████████ and the Ash Point Ferry is a ferry operator in the Ulmarkan Protectorates whose decision to remain at his post during a severe storm system off the coast of Salt Coast in December 2058 resulted in the loss of his life and that of all aboard. The incident, which occurred under the watch of the Salt Coast Weather Service, remains a subject of local memorialization and official inquiry within the Ulmarkan Empire.

Early life and career

██████████ was born in Nordvik, a coastal settlement located on the northern fringe of Ulmarka. He worked as a ferry operator on the Ash Point route, a vital maritime link connecting the mainland to the northern islets of the Salt Coast. The vessel served fishing families and local traders who relied on daily crossings for their livelihoods and supply lines.

The gale of December 2058

[edit]

In late December 2058, a severe storm system developed off the coast, prompting multiple alerts from harbour masters and warnings issued by the Salt Coast Weather Service. Despite the escalating danger and explicit orders to evacuate, Jensen remained at his station aboard the ferry. Passengers had boarded under normal conditions before the storm intensified into a gale that exceeded operational safety thresholds for small vessels on the route.

The sinking

[edit]

As waves began to crash over the vessel, Jensen refused to abandon ship or order an emergency evacuation. He is reported to have clung to the railing as the ferry drifted toward the jagged rocks near Ash Point. The vessel struck the shore and broke apart, resulting in the loss of all passengers and crew. The disaster occurred without incident reports being broadcasted prior to the final moments of the sinking.

Aftermath and legacy

[edit]

The disaster left a deep scar on the Salt Coast community. Investigations by the Protectorate Maritime Board determined that Jensen had acted against established safety protocols. No formal charges were brought due to his death, but local memorial services marked the anniversary of the incident. The ferry route was discontinued and replaced by motorised launches with automated safety systems.
