Rendorlin History is the collective chronicle of a supercontinent that has hosted humanity's oldest continuously inhabited cities, including ██████, which has seen occupation since 3000 BOR. The earliest known inhabitants were the Tylans, who established their civilization in ancient Tylan around 7000 BOR before expanding across much of Rendorlin by 2500 BOR.[1] Following the Tylans came the Orylians, whose empires further shaped the continent's political landscape until the modern era defined by the Ulmarkan Empire. The language Lilyan, derived from ancient Tylan, eventually displaced Oryan as the dominant tongue of commerce and scholarship, spoken by over half a billion people today.[2]

The contemporary geopolitical map of Rendorlin is dominated by the Ulmarkan Empire, which controls the southwestern region known as the Ulmarkan Protectorate. Established in 1705 as part of early colonial efforts, this protectorate was reorganized during the recent Protectorate Wars (2035 to 2041), a conflict ordered by the ██████████████████████████ to seize grain lands and shipyards.[3] The war resulted in the conquest of the Salt Coast on north-eastern Rendorlin, creating four new protectorates settled by Ulmarkan homesteaders in Oil Homesteads. Despite the intense colonization, the city-state of ██████ remained a pivotal point, retaken from imperial forces by the sea in January 2050 during the Siege of Anselmar.[4]

Geography

[edit]

The continent of Rendorlin encompasses diverse environments ranging from the narrow isthmus connecting the northern and southern polar seas to the expansive inland regions. Eden's End, founded in 2000 BOR by settlers from Sylvaris, occupies a strategic position on this isthmus and has grown into a metropolis with over four million residents.[5] The polar seas flank the continent, while the interior features vast agricultural zones now utilized for grain production under imperial oversight. This geographical diversity supports a population that includes both human citizens and integrated ███████ species, though the latter are managed under strict legal frameworks regarding their personhood and movement.[6]

Languages

[edit]

Lilyan serves as one of Rendorlin's two official languages, derived directly from the ancient tongue used in Tylan. Originally Oryan was the common language before Lilyan gradually displaced it to become the standard medium for commerce and academic scholarship.[7] Today, more than half a billion people speak Lilyan, making it the lingua franca of the region. The shift from Oryan to Lilyan facilitated broader communication across the supercontinent's various civilizations, though dialects persist in remote areas like the mountainous north where the █████████████████ resides.[8]

History

[edit]

The history of Rendorlin is characterized by successive waves of civilization building upon the foundations laid by the Tylans. By 2500 BOR, their influence had spread across much of what is now the continent, setting the stage for the rise of Orylian empires.[9] The colonial era began in earnest with the establishment of the Ulmarkan Protectorate in 1705, marking a significant shift toward imperial administration. This period saw the integration of local populations into a broader imperial structure, although resistance movements and internal conflicts would periodically challenge imperial authority.[10]

Culture

[edit]

Rendorlin's culture is a complex blend of ancient traditions and modern imperial influence. The legacy of the Tylans persists in various cultural practices and place names, while the dominance of the Ulmarkan Empire has introduced new customs related to military organization and religious institutions like the Church of Mark. The city of ██████ stands as a testament to this continuity, maintaining its status as a major urban center despite centuries of external control.[11] Literary works such as A History Of ██████ by Professor Lillian Telford provide detailed insights into how these cultural layers have evolved over time.[12]

Political Structure

[edit]

Under the current emperor Voldi III of Xylos, the Ulmarkan Empire exercises direct control over its protectorates through a network of governors and deputy governors. The administration is centralized, with officials answering directly to the imperial capital.[13] However, the structure has faced challenges, particularly with the rise of autonomous entities like the █████████████████ in the northern mountains, which operates outside imperial jurisdiction. The Cohesive Global Concord also plays a role in mediating disputes between the empire and client states such as the █████████████████████.[14]
