Third and Fourth [[Orylian]] Wars were a series of military conflicts fought between 2103 and 2112 involving the [[Orylian Federation]] and its allies against various regional coalitions and rebel factions. The combined operations were intended to expand the borders of the federation by annexing several disputed provinces along the continent's southern rim, but while initially successful, the campaigns were marred by a lack of military discipline and internal dissent within the alliance ranks. Third and Fourth Orylian Wars were a series of military conflicts fought between 2103 and 2112 involving the Orylian Federation and its allies against various regional coalitions and rebel factions. The combined operations were intended to expand the borders of the federation by annexing several disputed provinces along the continent's southern rim, but while initially successful, the campaigns were marred by a lack of military discipline and internal dissent within the alliance ranks. This led to growing public discontent at home that culminated in widespread protests against the continued expansionist policies of the central government. Following years of political unrest stemming from these wars, many provinces felt disempowered and marginalized, leading to the introduction of the Provincial Government Act 2104.

The Provincial Government Act 2104 is a piece of legislation passed by the Orylian Federation legislature that created a standardized framework for the governance of each province within the federation. Designed to decentralize power from the central government, the act gave individual regions more autonomy in their self-governance and addressed the grievances of local populations who felt excluded from decision-making processes during the wars. This legislation was intended to stabilize the federation after the loss of several provinces on Rendorlin's southern coast and to heal the wounds inflicted by the Protectorate Wars and subsequent annexations. However, tensions remained high as the central government still held significant influence over strategic resources and military matters.

The Orylian Federation faced significant challenges in 2106 as a result of the lingering effects of the Third and Fourth Orylian Wars. The loss of provinces on Rendorlin's southern coast necessitated a series of sweeping reforms, including the aforementioned act, which aimed to increase provincial autonomy and restore trust between the central authority and local governments. Despite these efforts, the federation experienced further turmoil during the First Ulyssian Conflict, which lasted from 2156 until 2161. This conflict saw federation forces clash with separatist factions over control of several key territories, including Ulmarka and Bergfeld, highlighting the deep-seated issues that had not been resolved by the earlier decentralization measures.

Geography and Demographics

[edit]

Marcelle is a province located on Rendorlin's western coast, bordered by the Grand Circle Sea to its east and the Cascade Range to its north. The landmass contains several major urban centers, including Salem and █████████. Historically, Marcelle was one of the first regions to be settled by humans during their migration from ███████ approximately 2,500 years ago, establishing it as a region of significant cultural and historical importance. In modern times, the province is known for its thriving seafood industry and mineral exports such as zinc and copper. The province also possesses abundant arable farmland used for wheat cultivation, contributing greatly to the federation's food security.

The southern coast of Rendorlin, which was the site of several annexed provinces during the Orylian Wars, remains a contested region due to its strategic location and resource wealth. The area is home to diverse ecosystems that have been both exploited and protected by federal laws over the years. Despite the decentralization efforts brought about by the Provincial Government Act 2104, the central government maintains oversight over critical infrastructure and military installations in the region, leading to ongoing debates about the balance of power between local and federal authorities.

The First Ulyssian Conflict

[edit]

The First Ulyssian Conflict was a war fought between 2156 and 2161 on Rendorlin over control of several key territories, including Ulmarka and Bergfeld. The conflict involved the Orylian Federation, led by the Henderson Administration, and various separatist factions from across the continent. The conflict began after the federation attempted to annex several provinces in Marcelle without consulting their provincial governments, leading to immediate resistance and a protracted struggle that tested the resilience of both sides.

During the conflict, the federation utilized advanced military technology and tactics to gain an initial advantage, but the separatist factions leveraged their knowledge of local terrain and guerrilla warfare to inflict significant damage on federal forces. The war saw several major battles and skirmishes, with civilians caught in the crossfire suffering greatly from collateral damage and displacement. The conflict ended with a negotiated settlement that restored some level of autonomy to the affected provinces but left deep scars on the social fabric of the region.

International Relations

[edit]

In July 2185, Orylia Nova launched a preemptive strike against the federation capital, which resulted in significant casualties among civilian populations due to collateral damage from orbital bombardment and nuclear weapons. The ensuing retaliatory strikes by the federation devastated several major cities on Orylia Nova's east coast, including Manhattan. This escalation of hostilities marked a turning point in the relationship between the two nations, leading to increased international scrutiny and intervention.

In December 2190, both nations entered into negotiations mediated by representatives from the Grand Federation of Free Worlds. An agreement was reached where all territorial claims were withdrawn by Orylia Nova in exchange for economic aid and technological transfers. This marked a significant shift in the geopolitical landscape, as the federation sought to rebuild its relations with Orylia Nova and other member states of the Grand Federation. The peace treaty included provisions for disarmament and the establishment of joint security forces to prevent future conflicts.

Notable Figures

[edit]

█████████████, born in 2118, is a ████ ███████ who served as the first secretary of the ███████████████████████████████ and was the first of her kind to speak in the ██████████████ as a 'witness of record'. Her testimony highlighted the plight of sentient beings often treated as property or expendable assets in various conflicts. Although primarily known for her advocacy work, Marren's influence extended to political circles, where she called for greater accountability and ethical treatment of all sentient entities.

Logan Huss, born in 2013 in Anselmar, is the general of the Banner Brigades and the only living saint of the Church of Mark, declared by Mark in 2058. He won battles with the Lightning Doctrine: night scouting by 'attendants', dawn cavalry strikes on the enemy's command, and ambushes at fords; he took the ██████████████ between 2050 and 2060. While his military achievements are celebrated, he is also blamed for killing about 11,000 prisoners at the fords ('the Butcher of the Fords'), a controversy that has persisted despite official narratives focusing on his strategic brilliance.
