Fall of Ulmarka, 2562–2570, is the period during which the Ulmarkan Empire was conquered by the United Eastern Alliance (UEA). The conflict began in October 2562 when the UEA launched a multi-front invasion aimed at securing strategic access to the Ulmarkan Isthmus and its ports, including Oakhaven Bay. Following prolonged naval campaigns that neutralized the Ulmarkan fleet and devastating land offensives, imperial defensive lines were pushed back toward the interior. The war concluded in April 2570 with the overrun of the main fortress at Oakhaven Bay, the death of ███████ ███████ Hesk II, and the subsequent dissolution of imperial rule. The event marked the end of a two-century era of stability under the Ulmarkan Empire and fundamentally reshaped Orylia's geopolitical map. By 2560, the empire, though still powerful, faced severe internal decay and external pressure. Economic strain and military overextension, exacerbated by relations deteriorating with the UEA following border disputes over the Salt Coast Clearances, weakened imperial resolve. Tensions escalated after the Battle of Oakhaven Bay in September 2560, where initial skirmishes revealed critical vulnerabilities in Ulmarkan defenses. The UEA, formed in 2558 to break Ulmarkan hegemony over the Isthmus, capitalized on these weaknesses to launch a decisive invasion.

Causes

[edit]

The Fall of Ulmarka can be traced back to structural issues within the empire that had been festering since the Protectorate Wars. By 2560, the Ulmarkan Empire, though still a major power, suffered from economic strain and military overextension following its expansion into protectorates since 2041. Relations with the United Eastern Alliance deteriorated rapidly after border disputes over the Salt Coast Clearances and disagreements over trade tariffs. The UEA sought to end Ulmarkan dominance over the Isthmus, a region rich in resources and critical for maritime trade. Tensions escalated significantly following the Battle of Oakhaven Bay in September 2560, where initial skirmishes revealed Ulmarkan vulnerabilities in both naval and land defense. The UEA's strategic planning focused on exploiting these weaknesses to force a rapid collapse of imperial authority. Concurrently, internal unrest within the empire weakened its ability to respond effectively to external threats, creating a perfect storm for invasion.
