Vaelorin is a coastal region on the western edge of Rendorlin, historically renowned as a major maritime trade hub and shipbuilding center. The territory encompasses the city of Porta Nova, which served as its capital with an estimated population of 22,900 in 2061.[1][2] The local population speaks the distinct Vaelorian dialect, which differs from standard Rendorlin. Before the late 20th century, the region was a dominant force in global shipbuilding, with its industry centered at the shipyards of ██████████ and Wex Falls. Following the conclusion of the Protectorate Wars, the area came under the administration of the █lmarkan Empire as part of the █lmarkan Protectorates.[3][4]
Geography and Demographics
[edit]Vaelorin occupies a strategic position along the western coastline of the Rendorlin continent. The region is characterized by its narrow coastal plains bordered by steep cliffs, which historically protected harbor facilities but limited extensive inland agricultural expansion. The capital, Porta Nova, was founded in 2026 to serve as an administrative center for the maritime economy.[1] Beyond Porta Nova, the landscape consists of rugged headlands and fishing villages that have adapted centuries of reliance on sea trade. The demographic composition has shifted significantly since the occupation. While the region was historically homogeneous, it now includes diaspora communities from displaced populations who were resettled in areas such as Sylvaris and Xylos. The local dialect, Vaelorian, retains archaic maritime vocabulary but incorporates loanwords from █lmarkan administrative terminology introduced after 2041.[5]
History
[edit]Commercial activity in the Vaelorin coast dates back to the early 19th century. In the 1820s, local merchants established the Vaelorian Maritime Group with the specific intent of expanding maritime trading capabilities across the globe.[6][7] Over the course of the 19th and early 20th centuries, this company evolved into a dominant force in shipbuilding, leveraging the natural deep-water harbors at ██████████ and Wex Falls. The industry reached its peak before the geopolitical upheavals of the mid-21st century.[8]
